Preschool

“We all have the duty

to call attention to the science and

seriousness of early childhood

cognitive development -

because the (years) between

birth and five are the foundation

upon which successful lives are built.”

Laura Bush

Early Childhood Cognitive Development

The Saint Charles Preschool offers a developmental approach to learning.  The curriculum is based on Virginia’s  Foundation Blocks for Early Learning, which can be found in PDF file format on the Virginia Department of Education’s website http://www.doe.virginia.gov/VDOE/Instruction/Elem_M/Foundation Blocks.pdf. Under the auspices of the Diocese of Arlington, the curriculum has been enhanced by the addition of the recognition of a loving God. Children learn at their own pace and through play. Our staff recognizes that children learn through play and they work every day to provide the learning environment that supports the joy of learning.

Additionally, the children learn of a loving God. Creating an environment of unconditional love is the gift of the staff of Saint Charles Preschool. Children are honored and recognized as individuals. Recognizing the “science and the seriousness” of early childhood education is the role of the staff, but understanding that children should learn through fun and stimulating activities is the additional ingredient. On a daily basis, the dedicated teachers of Saint Charles offer our children the opportunity to discover at their own pace, through their own interests.
